Shinjuku Eisa Matsuri on July 31st in Tokyo

This year on July 31st in Tokyo, there was the Shinjuku Eisa Matsuri, that involved the spectators into the spirit of the distant islands of Okinawa.

Like the festival Gujo Odori, also the Eisa Matsuri is one of the main Japanese Obon dance festival.

To commemorate the victims of the earthquake, this year’s festival will also include teams from the areas affected by the disaster, which will perform traditional dances of Sendai (Suzume Odori) and the city of Iwaki, Fukushima (Jyangara Nenbutsu Odori).

The festival which took place in Shinjuku saw 25 teams from around Japan, performing in 12 designated points, all in the vicinity of the east of Shinjuku station.
